Best DIY Wood Carving Kits on Amazon!

There are quite a few of these DIY style carving kits on Amazon, but most of them are actually terrible. How do I know? Because I bought them, tried them, and hated them. Even some of the kits from BeaverCraft just wont cut it (pun intended)

So, if you want to buy a full, DIY, wood carving kit that comes with everything you need to get started, I will only suggest the ones below for now. I may be working on something behind the scenes here too!

But on to the kits! If you want, I have some videos of me carving some of them at the bottom of the page too.

Best For Beginners – BeaverCraft Wizard Kit

If you are looking for the most basic, beginner friendly, first carving, with all you need to start at this very second kit, the BeaverCraft Wizard Carving Kit is probably going to be my one and only option for anyone.

The kit comes with the basics: A very sharp C2 carving knife, 3 basswood blocks, sandpaper, finger wrap, a pencil, patterns, and a carving guide. The only thing I wish it had was a leather strop to keep the knife honed sharp, but for the small projects you wont need it.

My only gripe, it feels a little more on the expensive side when compared to other kits, but if you see a sale or Amazon coupon, jump on it! Link to the kit here: https://amzn.to/43RCJGf

Best Intermediate Project – BeaverCraft Comfort Bird

Looking for more of a challenge or just a larger project? Give Beavercraft’s Comfort Bird kit a try!

This was probably one of my more enjoyable projects and it comes with all you will need to get started, including 2 different types of wood; basswood and cherry. Just keep in mind that the cherry will naturally be 2 to 3 times harder to carve than basswood and they almost look similar in the box at a glance, but go with the lighter colored basswood first.

Don’t expect to be able to do this in one sitting though! This is a couple hour long project if you are only using the tools included in the box. Take it slow and enjoy the process over the course of a few days. Link to the kit here: https://amzn.to/4cLQHNQ

Best Spoon Carving Project – BeaverCraft Love Spoon

If you want a good challenge and try a more intricate project, this BeaverCraft Love Spoon kit is a really good option.

This one comes with everything you will need plus a pre-cut spoon blank that you can finish up! To me, this is purely a decorative piece but it provides you with a really cool project that helps develop and hone your carving skills. I really enjoyed making mine myself.

However, I also highly recommend you pick up BeaverCrafts palm gouge set too as it will make the whole experience that much more enjoyable. https://amzn.to/3J80qR5

My Carving Videos!

I may have bought the kits above, but I also filmed myself carving two of them!

The BeaverCraft Love Spoon kit was a joy to make, but I did have my cat being a little pest behind me while carving it in the video. He’s a little brat sometimes but I love his fluffy face.

The Comfort Bird kit was a bit of a challenge for me, but that was because I grabbed the cherry wood first without realizing it! Still a great project and I highly recommend it.
